The Waste Management Project is a company-wide sustainability initiative started in 2016, focusing on waste production and reduction opportunities such as optimisation, technology application and recycling. From 2017, we began taking the message and practice of recycling to our townships. We started with a dedicated program at Bandar Bukit Raja, where to date, over 30 Tonnes of household recyclables have been recycled under our sponsored community project. Community recycling is now being replicated to other township communities.
To track Sime Darby Property’s waste production and apply and optimise solutions to reduce our impact on the environment and its ecosystems.
- Optimizing environmental performance resulting from our business activities, we understand the need to reduce environmental impact and conserve dwindling resources.
- Ensuring continuous operational cost savings from minimising waste generation and increasing recycling rates across the business. From about 2017, the company started looking past waste within our business operations to how we might set in place positive community action around waste minimisation. We started with a community recycling program at one of our key townships, Bandar Bukit Raja, across 27 Resident Associations. Over the 3 phases of this project between 2017 and early 2020, the community has recycled over 35 tonnes. Funds from the recycling have gone to the community.
