Defending champion Elina Svitolina returns for ALYA WTA Malaysian Open 2017 at TPC Kuala Lumpur
ALYA Kuala Lumpur is new title sponsor for WTA Malaysian Open 2017.

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 February 2017 – TPC Kuala Lumpur is set to host the ALYA WTA Malaysian Open 2017 from 27 February 2017 until 5 March 2017, amidst the green surroundings of ALYA Kuala Lumpur, the unique lifestyle destination by Sime Darby Property. The high-end property brand which is also Malaysia’s most coveted address, is the title sponsor for this highly-anticipated sporting event for the first time since its inaugural staging in 2010.

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina who is ranked 13th in the world, returns to the WTA Malaysian Open and will attempt to be the first player to defend the tournament title.  Svitolina is currently enjoying good form, having upset top-ranked Angelique Kerber of Germany at the quarterfinals of the recent Brisbane International 2017.

Together with Spain’s Carla Suarez-Navarro who is ranked 14th in the world and a host of top players, Svitolina will be competing in this prestigious Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) sanctioned tournament, which promises to be an exciting and competitive event.

Sime Darby Property Managing Director Dato’ Ir. Jauhari Hamidi said, “We are excited to host the ALYA WTA Malaysian Open 2017 at TPC Kuala Lumpur and to see our premier development brand – ALYA Kuala Lumpur – become an iconic and premier destination for international sports and cultural events in the region. We look forward to welcoming all the players and witnessing a week-long tennis tournament packed with much entertainment and energy.”

The event, which is supported among others by the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Singapore Airlines as the Official Airline and Auto Bavaria providing BMWs as the Official Car, will begin with the qualifying draw on 25 and 26 February 2017. The main event will serve up the action on 27 February till 5 March 2017, when the finals of the Singles and Doubles will be held.

Tournament Director and Executive Chairman of Carbon Sports, Mr. Keld Kristiansen said, “It is going to be a week-long tennis extravaganza for fans. Held at a perfect venue – ALYA Kuala Lumpur – we are set to see world-class tennis players displaying top quality performances. A host of activities has also been lined up to make it a ‘tennis week’; kids tennis camp, adults tennis camp, a CEO Challenge and a forum by renowned Jeff Spencer, an Olympian cyclist and award winning chiropractor, to name a few.”

Besides the ones mentioned, other notable international players taking part in the tournament include Caroline Garcia, Wang Qiang, Sorana Cirstea, Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-Wei.

Additionally, Malaysian tennis fans will see one or two of their very own players in this tournament via the ‘Wild-Card’ entry.

Tickets are affordably priced (see attached schedule) for fans to watch top class tennis up close and personal in a unique environment surrounded by nature and open spaces, minutes away from the city centre.
