The event was attended by more than 200 cycling enthusiasts involving Sime Darby Property PRIME members and members of the public who were eager to see their national hero up-close and to learn more about cycling and the sport.
Azizulhasni took the opportunity to share with participants his experience competing in the recent Rio 2016 Olympics and how it felt winning the bronze medal in the men’s keirin final, during an exclusive talk cum clinic session prior to the flag-off of the main cycling event.
He was joined by fellow national cyclist Fatehah Mustapa, a contender in the women’s sprint cycling event at the Rio Olympic Games.

The event continued with Jauhari, Azizulhasni and Fatehah joining all participants in the 20km fun ride within City of Elmina and surrounding areas.
One of the township’s wellness features is a proposed 90km cycling and jogging track, one of the longest tracks in the country. The track is expected to be fully completed by 2030.
“This cycling event is also an initiative by Sime Darby Property to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community through sports and recreation. It is also a platform for Sime Darby Property to engage with the public and introduce City of Elmina as a township that embraces the concept of wellness and liveability,” Jauhari added.
Azizulhasni and Fatehah are beneficiaries of the Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) Track Cycling Team and recipients of the YSD Star Scholarship for tertiary studies in Melbourne, Australia. Yayasan Sime Darby was also instrumental in bringing both Azizulhasni and Fatehah to the City of Elmina for the community fun ride event.
Azizulhasni has various achievements under his belt which includes a silver medal at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2009 (men’s sprint category) as well as the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2010 (men’s keirin category).
Fatehah was a gold medal winner at the Asian Cycling Championships in 2012 (women’s keirin category) and achieved three gold medals in the South East Asian (SEA) Games held in Jakarta in 2011. She also became the best female cyclist in Asia after finishing sixth in the finals of UCI Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia in 2011.
