ARA DAMANSARA, 20 August 2016 – Sime Darby Property celebrated national track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang’s recent Olympic Games medal win with a community fun ride held at the City of Elmina today.

The event was attended by more than 200 cycling enthusiasts involving Sime Darby Property PRIME members and members of the public who were eager to see their national hero up-close and to learn more about cycling and the sport.

Azizulhasni took the opportunity to share with participants his experience competing in the recent Rio 2016 Olympics and how it felt winning the bronze medal in the men’s keirin final, during an exclusive talk cum clinic session prior to the flag-off of the main cycling event.

He was joined by fellow national cyclist Fatehah Mustapa, a contender in the women’s sprint cycling event at the Rio Olympic Games.

Dato’ Ir. Jauhari Hamidi, Managing Director of Sime Darby Property said, “We are proud of Azizulhasni Awang’s spirit and achievement at the recent Rio 2016 Olympics, which reflects Sime Darby Property’s own determination to become the number one sustainable property developer in Malaysia and beyond. We are pleased to organise this community fun ride in celebration of his accomplishment and further share the joy with our customers and the public.”

The event continued with Jauhari, Azizulhasni and Fatehah joining all participants in the 20km fun ride within City of Elmina and surrounding areas.

One of the township’s wellness features is a proposed 90km cycling and jogging track, one of the longest tracks in the country. The track is expected to be fully completed by 2030.

“This cycling event is also an initiative by Sime Darby Property to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community through sports and recreation. It is also a platform for Sime Darby Property to engage with the public and introduce City of Elmina as a township that embraces the concept of wellness and liveability,” Jauhari added.

Azizulhasni and Fatehah are beneficiaries of the Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) Track Cycling Team and recipients of the YSD Star Scholarship for tertiary studies in Melbourne, Australia. Yayasan Sime Darby was also instrumental in bringing both Azizulhasni and Fatehah to the City of Elmina for the community fun ride event.
