Sultan of Selangor Breaks Fast with Rakyat at Masjid Bukit Jelutong
Shah Alam, 1 July 2014?- The Sultan of Selangor, D.Y.M.M. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, attended a breaking of fast event with locals at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Bukit Jelutong today.

Jointly organised by Sime Darby Property and Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS), the event was attended by some 3,500 people including residents of Bukit Jelutong and the surrounding areas, Sime Darby Group employees, disadvantaged members of the community, orphans and new converts.

The Sultan of Selangor handed out Hari Raya Aidilfitri contributions to the homeless, orphans and other needy Malaysians at the event. In addition, Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Bakke Salleh, President & Group Chief Executive, Sime Darby Berhad, presented the Group s zakat contribution of RM1 million, which was received by the Sultan of Selangor.?

Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Bakke said, It is indeed a privilege that His Royal Highness has chosen to break fast with his loyal subjects at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah. This is the second year that Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah has had the privilege to host this special Iftar event attended by His Royal Highness and we are blessed to have a monarch who truly cares for the welfare of his subjects and has taken time from his busy schedule to join us. ?

As a key participant in the Malaysian economy and as a diversified multinational, the Sime Darby Group and our business divisions are fully committed towards contributing positively to the communities we operate in, whether locally or abroad. ?Sime Darby Property s contribution this evening is very much in line with the Group s commitment as a responsible corporate citizen to do our part by getting involved in the lives of the disadvantaged in our community and by doing so, helping to lessen their burdens, Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Bakke added.?

Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah was officially launched on March 16, 2013, in memory of the Sultan of Selangor s late grandmother, Almarhumah Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, who was also Malaysia s second Raja Permaisuri Agong.?

The construction of the RM25.5 million mosque was funded in part by the Selangor Royal Family, specifically from the wakaf of Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj; the Selangor State Government; Sime Darby Property as the developer of the Bukit Jelutong township; as well as personal contributions from the members of the community of Bukit Jelutong.?

Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah can accommodate up to 4,000 people. The mosque was also purpose-built to serve as a community centre and has a multi-purpose hall, a resource centre, an exhibition room, lecture rooms and a childcare centre on its premises. ??

Since the mosque was launched, a number of well-received religious and community activities have been held here, not only benefitting the residents of Bukit Julutong but also residents from adjacent townships such as Denai Alam. Among the activities held were religious talks such as the monthly Halaqah Bukit Jelutong that attracted about 700-1000 people at each session, the Kulliyah Muslimat programme that was attended by 200-300 people each time, Kulliyah Maghrib and Kulliyah Subuh, Tahfiz and vocal classes as well as the MTAJ Kids Corner.?

Dato Seri Wahab Maskan, Group Chief Operating Officer of Sime Darby Berhad and Managing Director of Sime Darby Property Berhad, said, We take pride in seeing our development, Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, being well-received and playing such an integral part in such events that not only see the gathering of the community for prayers but also provides an opportunity for us as a corporate citizen to give back. With its multi-purpose function, the mosque is both a community centre and a catalyst for religious, social, educational and economic activity here in Bukit Jelutong, and this enables us to remain true to our vision of developing sustainable communities. ?

As the holy month of Ramadhan encourages compassion and charity, Sime Darby Property is honoured to have been able to work closely with JAIS and the management of Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah to organise this memorable buka puasa event graced by His Highness, Dato Seri Wahab concluded.?
