22 April 2010 - Sime Darby Property took the lead in the Government’s initiative to reduce crime by contributing to the Royal Malaysian Police Force 3 Hyundai Starex which have been converted into mobile police stations and 3 motorcycles to be used for street patrolling.
Dato’ Tunku Putra Badlishah, Managing Director of Sime Darby Property handed over the vehicles to Dato’ Khalid Abu Bakar, Chief Police Officer of Selangor at a ceremony witnessed by Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister of Home Affairs and Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zubir bin Haji Murshid, President and Group Chief Executive of Sime Darby Berhad on 21 April 2010.
The mobile police station and 3 motorcycles will be utilized to patrol the ‘hot spot’ area of SS15, Subang Jaya while the other two mobile police stations will be used by the police to patrol Sime Darby Property’s Bandar Bukit Raja and Denai Alam townships in Klang and Shah Alam respectively.
Sime Darby Property hosted the signing ceremony on the collaboration of commitment to reduce crime between the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government-Linked Companies (GLC’s), Local Authorities, Statutory Bodies & various private companies. More than 30 signatories representing the various parties pledged their commitment to do their part in reducing crime and to promote safety throughout the nation. The initiative to reduce crime is one of the six focus areas under the National Key Results Areas (NKRAs) designed to drive overall Government Transformation in terms of public services, resulting in improved outcomes for all Malaysians.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein thanked Sime Darby for hosting the event and said that he was impressed with Sime Darby’s commitment to reduce crime especially through its Safe City initiatives in Ara Damansara. He also praised Sime Darby Property of being one of the first companies to step up and be counted in the NKRA fight against crime.
“Sime Darby’s pledge today reflects the company’s overall commitment to work with the Government and its agencies in combating crimes. It is also part of the Company’s overall comprehensive safe city initiative which is in line with the Government’s National Key Result Areas (NKRA) to reduce crime,” said Dato Tunku Putra Badlishah in his speech at the event.
To date, Sime Darby Property has implemented various integrated and comprehensive Safe City initiatives in its townships with a total investment of about RM15 million.
The various initiatives include the Safe City Initiative which was launched in Ara Damansara township in July 2009. The initiative consists of the installation of CCTV network with 22 cameras positioned at strategic locations along the neighbourhood and linked to the Ara Damansara police station and the Petaling Jaya district headquarters and contributing 2 patrol cars to the Ara Damansara Police Station. Based on feedback from the residents and the Police, Sime Darby Property has also incorporated a further range of proactive safety features in Ara Damansara which include the installation of guardrails to protect pedestrians from passing vehicular traffic at selected areas; ensuring isolated areas are well-lit at night; and the stationing of bollards to prevent obstruction of public spaces by irresponsible vehicle-owners.
Sime Darby Property had also worked with the Government and the Royal Malaysian Police Force to either build or contribute to the setting up of a Police Station in its townships such as in Bukit Jelutong, Putra Heights and Nilai Impian. In addition, the Company has also implemented the Rakan Cop programme with its Nilai Impian community.
